Sounds so dramatic doesn’t it? It is, in a way, but these days it’s pretty ‘la ze fair’. Is that how you say that? Registering a domain name these days is not really a big deal. It’s not quite a $.10 a dozen, but more like $144 per dozen per year, or just one, for a dozen years.
ICANN, or the “Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers”, is pretty much the overseers of the ‘name directory’ of the internet. Basically that’s just a fancy way of saying translating names and numbers according to a registered list.
ICANN is the administrative ‘overlord’ of the ‘registrars’ that does exactly that… maintain the computers that are the internet’s DNS or Domain Name System. If you want to be a registrar, ICAN is who ‘accredits’ you.
Registration Information
An individual or legal entity wishing to register a domain name under a generic top-level domain (“gTLD”) (http://www.icann.org/en/resources/registries/listing) may do so by using an ICANN-accredited registrar. There are several hundred accredited registrars located throughout the world that provide support in local languages. For a list of all current ICANN-accredited registrars, please see http://www.internic.net/regist.html. The relationship between a domain name registrant and the ICANN-accredited registrar is governed by a Registration Agreement between the two parties.

ICANNÂ is a not-for-profit public-benefit corporation with participants from all over the world dedicated to keeping the Internet secure, stable and interoperable. It promotes competition and develops policy on the Internet’s unique identifiers. Through its coordination role of the Internet’s naming system, it does have an important impact on the expansion and evolution of the Internet.

So, now you know that LOL… back on track…
I actually registered innerwebblueprint.com at the same time as a bunch of other domain names much like it. I used to have this thing where I would register every possible combination of an idea in a sort of ‘domain name shopping spree’.
Now, there is no actual way, in the time allotted to me on this planet, that I could ever complete all the projects that are in my head, or all the ideas that I’ve done the ‘domain name shopping spree’ with. At one point I owned so many domain names I’m embarrassed to admit how many.
The ‘reason’ for that was that I was always concerned that even if I just looked up a domain name, someone was looking over my shoulder and would try to ‘steal’ my idea, ‘buy my domain’.
This is ‘wrong’ thinking by the way LOL… It’s not likely someone will try to ‘steal an idea’ until it’s already making a ton of money. That’s when you should worry!! LOL
